Bicycle Commuting Workshop
Bicycle Safety is foremost important. This is done through a discussion of awareness, common mistakes, and equipment. Bicycle Safety gets hands-on with an example of dooring. We will share techniques for injury prevention including the Dutch Reach, 3-foot law, and signaling.
Logistics includes route planning, backpacks and panniers, showers and facilities, weather, incorporation of public transportation, and flat repairs. More topics can be discussed. After 20 years of commuting, these topics are essential. Hands-on flat repair and gear demo will take place.
Motivation is our expertise. What makes people move? Why get up early? Does cycling improve heart health? How do you keep going when things get tough? These topics will be addressed. In addition, cycling commuting can present solutions to challenges completely unrelated to the ride. Have a problem at work, don’t be surprised if the answer appears on the ride home. Struggling to stay productive in the late afternoon. Fresh air, sunshine, and two wheels are right around the corner!
Test Rides conclude the workshop if time and space are available. Try out road, hybrid, cruiser, mountain, and electric bikes for the first time. Learn and experience clipping in and cycling with toe straps. Discover how the shape, style, and comfort of commuting bikes vary. Select the right bike to become an everyday commuter.
The Commute will be happy to return for future workshops. In addition, we are a resource throughout the calendar year, here to help!
