2.5 Miles in DC

One of my more memorable commutes took place in Washington DC. This one stands out because of the consistency. I made the trip to and from work nearly every day for a year. I relied on public transportation only a handful of times, never did I drive. A very quick 2.5 miles, I began on North Capital near the Fort Totten Metro station. I was teaching at a middle school in Columbia Heights; the ride was mostly a residential stretch of New Hampshire Avenue. Traffic was fairly light and the weather was favorable as I wasn’t riding in hot summer months. The following year, my commute increased to 17 miles, I recall spending time on Google Maps to determine if the ride was feasible. Going from 2.5 to 17 was quite the jump. DC has excellent proximity for cycling, so many vibrant neighborhoods and all so close.
